Things You Should Know:

Dr. Barbara Bellar –
 Candidate For Illinois State Senate
(I'd vote for her!)

Obamacare Summed Up IN ONE SENTENCE:

We’re going to be gifted with a healthcare plan we are forced to purchase, and fined if we don’t, which purportedly covers at least 10 million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn’t understand it, passed by a congress that didn’t read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a president who smokes, with funding (laughing & applause) same sentence – with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn’t pay his taxes, for which we will be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted social security and medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese and financed by a country that’s broke.
So, what the blank (laughing & applause) could possibly go wrong?

Turns out this is particularly timely, as we had as our speaker a while back, Tim Hebert, a "Benefits Advisor", who spoke to us on Obamacare, and insurance in general.  Everyone was listening closely to what he said, because EVERYONE is going to be affected by this HUGE change in healthcare!
I thought it interesting that Tim portrayed himself as a "Benefits Advisor", rather than an insurance salesman.  He said his day is FULL, simply keeping up with all the changes with insurance, and advising people which way to go.  If YOU would like to contact him, go to http://sageba.com/

"Many of those who refuse, or are unable, to prove they are citizens will receive free insurance paid for by those who are forced to buy insurance because they are citizens."

Out with the old and in with the new!  Our
new server, Alysse,  (the CUTE one!) seems to have
brought with her a new look, as well as caring about her work!!

A NEW DESSERT LAYOUT, TOO!

Ron Young recently told us that he was invited to speak at the annual ReMax Personal Symposium last week.  He told us how, last year, he was recognized for being #1 in our local five state region!  More importantly though, out of 3,000 brokers from
around the world, Ron was ranked 30th!!!

How many have signed up to help with Make a Difference Week?  These guys (plus Bernecker) did!  Shown here
building/remodeling a shed at  the Boys and Girls Club.

Our Tuesday morning coffee group is currently meeting at Whole Foods, still at 7:30 a.m.!

A Sign-Up sheet was started for the next home game (Hawaii) on October 27th.  At the end of last meeting we had 10 people signed up, so plan to be there if you can!  This might be a good game, 'cause they are in the same boat we are ~ ONE WIN.
Hawaii allows 42.3 points per game, Colorado 42.5.  Yessir, could be exciting!
We can still wear khaki shorts, and, if you have a Sertoma shirt, WEAR IT!  Otherwise you get to wear an Ovations shirt.

Dave Blomberg bragged that he was able to . . . . celebrate his uncle's 95th birthday!

Brad Burns told us a few weeks ago that Ed Caffrey has been having some balance problems recently, therefore has not ventured far from home.  I'm sure he would appreciate a call or visit!

Norm Rehme bragged about his lovely wife, Carole, again.  He brought a book with him, Fundamentally Female, that she helped edit and produce.  Norm tells us that the book has already sold over 10,000 copies!

Lee Cord reminded us that this year's Brainiac Bowl would be upcoming on October 20th, which was LAST SATURDAY.  Tune in to the next newsletter to see if WE won, and brought home the coveted
GLOWING BRAIN TROPHY!??!

Next Board meeting is November 14th!! ~ the 2nd Wednesday of each month.

Scott Arledge (r)

Jim Bernecker initiated our next-to-newest member, Scott Arledge.  Scott seemed to emerge relatively unscathed, and probably had the valued Sertoma new member packet handed to him.  We ALL have the bumper sticker on our cars, right!??!

Scott grew up in Littleton, then attended college at CSU, graduating in 2008 with a degree in management and finance.  He was working as a teller at First Citizens Bank when he picked up uh, met his wife to be, Laura, a customer at the bank.  He currently serves as Business Services Representative at First Citizens Bank.
He enjoys rock climbing, mountain biking, and being outdoors, in general.  NOW, when you see Scott, do you know WHAT TO DO????
that's better.

Bernecker still has in place the (maybe NOT so-ambitious goal) of a DOZEN new members for our club by the end of the year!  Two down!

Gary Ross asked for everyone's input on how many projects we would attempt to take on during Football season.  It was decided that once a month would be a good number.  Of course, if NO ONE is attending the games, as is evidenced by the TEN PEOPLE who signed up to work last week, maybe we DO have more time??

$1,940 and $1,750 is the amount made from the first two football games, John K tells us.

It was decided that we would donate $1,500 to Crossroads Safehouse, as opposed to buying a table. I think.  There was a lot of confusion and several motions were made, seconded, then "friendly amendments" were added, then re-seconded.  The idea is that Crossroads has the best of both worlds:  the donation of $1,500 from the club and The table they can still raise money with.  With over 850 hours put in at Crossroads last year and a half, they certainly appreciate us and would like to see us represented, but, in the end, it was decided to just donate the money.  I think.  Jim told us that, interestingly enough, the 134 bed facility is FULL!

I believe that somehow I missed mentioning Colonel Manning's brag a while back ~ Jim had a check for $100 for turning 70 years old on September 15th!  He also had a $5 brag on his daughter for passing the bar exam in CO.

At the same time, Don Simecka ALSo had a check for $100 "for a birthday".  He told us that "he knows he's the SOW and has been pretty delinquent in picking a new SOW".  But he says he has "Fallen in love with that trophy".

On that same day John Knezovich had a check for $66, planning to turn 66 on September 18th.

Frank Johnson had a brag for the "wildest, craziest, GUTSIEST guy in the club:  CARL GLASER.  Frank went on to tell us how STUPID . . . . uh, AMAZING Carl was in a recent outing to an unnamed lake.  Seems Carl, MORE THAN ONCE, jumped off a 40-foot granite cliff into the cold lake.  Then, FOUR TIMES, he scrambled BAREFOOT up the side of a mountain to reach a rope attached to a tree so that he could swing out, over the lake, and at the height of his swing, DROP 40 - 50 feet into the lake below, screaming like a banshee!  film at 10

Ron Lautzenheiser celebrated his 71st birthday on October 1st, and had a check for $71 for the Sertoma Foundation!  Whatta' guy!

Norm was thanked for updating our Sertoma Directory, and keeping it current!

It was reported that Woody is doing "pretty good", but it's not certain that he'll be able to come back to Sertoma.

BOARD MEMBERS!  Remember that our Board Meeting is now on the second WEDNESDAY of the month!  We will meet on November 14th at The Fort Collins Board of Realtors, 110 W. Harvard.

Our Christmas Social will be on Wednesday night, December 5th.  It will be "similar" to what we had last year at the Hilton.

The ever-popular bike ride is back "by popular demand", Ronny tells us.  It will be September 29th.  Email Ronny if you plan to ride.

Abby's Sunset Concert will be Friday, Nov. 2 and Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Sunset Event Center.  Follow the link, and you will see a lot of information about this, the last concerts to be held.
We have supported the Abby's Concert Series every year for as long as it's been going ~ We donate $2,500 "seed money", and they turn it into $25,000, split between Pathways Hospice and Respite Care.  I know we have made a HUGE difference in many lives through this event each year, and will be sorry to see it stopped.

If you need a Sertoma Sponsorship Form, you might notice that there is an icon at the top of the newsletter that you can click on to print out the form.  There is also an application form.  Thanks to "Chainsaw" for his help!

It looks a lot like this:

Rob asked the question a while back, "What happens when you give Viagra to lawyers?"  A:  They grow taller.

INFO ~ 2012 - 2013

This "mini-newsletter" has been brought to you by the letter "M", the 13th letter of the alphabet.  OR, the first letter of that wonderful name, MICHAEL!  For those of you not in the know, Michael is a popular given name in the United States, and has been in the top three most popular names given to male babies in the U.S. for each year since 1953 . . . and, strangely enough, to more than a few FEMALE babies, too!
The Archangel Michael, referred to later in the Bible, is considered a saint by the Roman Catholic church and Eastern Orthodox Church. Twenty-nine September is the feast day of the three archangels, Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.  OH!  and do not forget John Travolta's "Michael"!
Strangely enough, it is also how you find Macy's on the New York Stock Exhange!
